Apple is facing supply issues with the iPhone 14 series as some panel and memory vendors are experiencing shortages, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in his latest report shared on Twitter. That said, this should have limited impact on future mass production.
Supply chain issues have already been reported. At the beginning of the month, DigiTimes said Apple was cutting iPhone 14 orders by 10% despite expected strong demand for the lineup. According to the publication, the problem started when Apple’s supplier, TSMC, had three major customers adjusting their orders, making the semiconductor situation worse.
Then Kuo hit back at the report saying that “Apple’s slight adjustments to iPhone shipping forecasts (single-digit increase/decrease) are common, including new models before mass productions.” At that time, Kuo added that “Apple usually does not significantly change shipping forecasts for new iPhones (double-digit increase/decrease) before launching new models and confirming actual demand/feedback. of the market “.
Now, Kuo follows the same line saying that there is a supply issue but that it will have “limited impact on the upcoming mass production of the iPhone 14 as other vendors can fill the supply gap”.
The analyst also gives some information about what is happening. With the memory, Kuo says Samsung “is almost the old supplier for 3Q22 and can meet the demand for accelerated production of iPhone 14 Pro. Micron and SK Hynix will likely ship in 4Q22 at the earliest as the former’s certification schedule started later and the latter encountered quality issues.
About the panel, Samsung and BOE “can largely fill the initial supply gap caused by LG Display’s panel appearance issues (iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14, mainly the former). It is expected that LG Display will not take much time to fix the issue.
It’s also worth noting that although Apple had some quality issues with the BOE panel with the iPhone 13 lineup, it looks like all is well as the company has retained the manufacturer as one of its suppliers for iPhone 14 models.
Apple will likely announce the iPhone 14 series in a few months. Are you excited? Share your thoughts on our social networks.
