According to rumours, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is expected to launch a larger version of its Macbook Air. but rumors say the new model is even bigger.

It would be the biggest MacBook Air yet – even bigger than the smallest MacBook Pro model (14-inches) and just an inch smaller than the larger Pro.

However, some suggest that it will also change its name. Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst, Ross Younghad claimed in May that the new device would actually measure 15.2 inches in diameter.

Characteristics

It would be the first time Apple has sold multiple-size models of the MacBook Air since the 11-inch model was released on stage in 2016.

The design of this new version should resemble that of the 13-inch launched this year, with a flat-edged design, a high-sensitivity touch trackpad, a keyboard with physical function keys and completely passive cooling.

Passive cooling, normal for MacBook Airs, means not including a fan, which sacrifices performance for a slimmer profile.

Much like the 2015 model, the larger MacBook Air could feature a Magsafe charging port and a 1080p webcam. Experts don’t expect the device to feature a mini-LED or pro-motion display, with both features expected to remain exclusive to the MacBook Pro line.

Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo recently said the company is working on a new 15-inch MacBook due out in 2023, packing an M2 or M2 Pro processor. Although we know of the M2 in current MacBook Airs, with an 8-core CPU and up to 10 GPU cores, there are still no spec details for the M2 Pro.

Release date

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman argues that we might see the new MacBook Air next spring. Kuo, on the other hand, estimates that it will not see the light of day before the second quarter of 2023, see later. Young wrote in a report that we should expect to be able to get our hands on a new 15-inch MacBook in 2023.
